As a small businessman who writes books that would make great gifts (particularly my Weird A-Coloring to Al coloring books) Christmas time is supposed to be the best and busiest time of the year.
That's why I wanted to get The Fractured Mirror done by November of this year.
I wasn't able to make that happen because I wanted to take my time and do the best possible job.
I told myself that I'd still manage to sell some books even without a new one out.
It has been a solid week, however, since I've sold so much as a single copy of a single one of the six or seven books in my store. I'm trying not to obsess about it but it doesn't feel good or give me faith that I'll be sell even an exceedingly modest amount in the future.
So if you would consider buying one of my books from my store it would be much appreciated. I need the money but more than that, it would mean a lot to me psychologically. That way I could answer the angry voice in my head that says, "Nobody will ever want anything you have to offer, ever, with, "At least one person wants at least one thing I have to offer."

I know I usually rap at ya about preeminent pop parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic but today I am writing to you about something much different but equally awesome: a brand spanking new version of a book that is near and dear to my heart, and, like The Fractured Mirror, an ambitious literary spin-off of my website Nathan Rabin's Happy Place.
It's been a LONG time coming but I am pleased to report that I just put out an extended version of The Joy of Trash we're calling the Flaming Garbage Fire extended edition. It's got sixty pages of additional material on scoundrels like Bill Cosby (Fat Albert), Dustin Diamond (The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story), John Kricfalusi (Ren & Stimpy: "Adult Party Cartoon"), Joe Camel (A Camel Named Joe: An American Icon) and the James Belushi-led Blues Brothers, who figure prominently in an epic closing chapter that explores the blues, the prison-industrial complex, nostalgia and my complicated feelings about my home town of Chicago.
It also includes a new cover and a new illustration from my brilliant illustrator Felipe Sobreiro as well as brand new pieces on the notorious Easy Rider sequel Easy Rider: The Ride Back and the notorious Spike TV Kelsey Grammer vehicle Gary the Rat created specifically for the book.
AND I am pleased to report that one Mr. "Weird Al" Yankovic was kind enough to give The Joy of Trash: Flaming Garbage Fire a cover blurb. What a mensch!
There's a reason Al hand-chose me to write his 2012 coffee table book Weird Al: The Book, and then copy-edited, fact-checked and wrote the introduction for The Weird Accordion to Al in addition to blurbing The Joy of Trash: Flaming Garbage Fire Extended Edition and The Weird A-Coloring to Al and it's not because he thinks I'm a terrible writer and my books suck. On the contrary, I suspect it's because he thinks I'm an excellent writer and my books are good.

Hey you beautiful people,
Like pretty much everyone, I now have a newsletter on Substack. I'm pleased to announce Nathan Rabin's Bad Ideas, a brand spanking new clearinghouse for some of my very worst ideas.
What kind of bad ideas? Well, I will be writing up ALL of the Ernest P. Worrell movies because it's about time that overlooked comic genius got his due.
I'll also be going to the theater every Friday and reviewing two movies a week for the first time since the late 1990s, when I was a freelancer for The A.V Club. You can determine what I write up. First up is this Friday, when I'll either be writing up some combination of the Gerard Butler movie Plane, the House Party reboot or Meg3an.
Later that night I'll be attending a Shrek-themed rave, which I will also be writing up for Nathan Rabin's Bad Ideas.

Hey y'all,
When Felipe and myself were working on The Weird A-Coloring to Al, I couldn't help but notice that, while our book covered a LOT of Al's career, there was still plenty left for us to cover should we ever choose to put out a longer version of the coloring book.
