Hey y'all,
I'm not going to lie. One of my primary objectives in creating The Weird Accordion to Al, The Weird A-Coloring to Al and The Joy of Trash was to do such a good job in both the writing of the books and the execution of the crowd-funding campaigns that when I announced my next book y'all would respond with an excited, "Hell yes! Excited to get onboard" and not "this again? Doesn't he realize no one likes him or his stupid books? Can't he just be sent away on an ice floe and never seen again?"
So I am very excited to introduce you to book number 9 (number 9, number 9, number 9) and the fourth book from Delcan Haven Books/The Happy Place: The Fractured Mirror: Nathan Rabin's Happy Place's Definitive Guide to American Movies About the Film Industry.
It will be a MASSIVE, 500, 600 page guide to the entirety of American movies about the film industry, arranged in alphabetical order and encompassing documentaries as well as narrative films.
I think of these films, which include some of the greatest movies ever made (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Sunset Boulevard, Singing in the Rain, Sullivan's Travels, Adaptation, Being John Malkovich) as well as some of the worst (Myra Breckinridge, An Alan Smithee Film: Burn, Hollywood Burn. Under the Rainbow, Won Ton Ton: The Dog That Saved Hollywood) as a story Hollywood has told about itself for well over a century in a thousand different voices.
What will this mean for you? Well, the Nathan Rabin's Happy Place's Patreon is about to get even more awesome, as I will be publishing new pieces that I will be writing for the book for it there, as well as the book's Kickstarter account.
I've got about a hundred pieces done so far and I'm going to do the final 100, 150 movies in the upcoming year.
And Felipe will once again be doing the illustrations! It's gonna be something like 60 to 65 new ones.
It's hard to overstate the importance of momentum on a Kickstarter project's first day so please help spread the word. Y'all are my army, and I need you to tell people about this book on social media and also pre-order it.
